Painting for the fun of it

The first picture on this page was a practice piece. It is a technique the masters from the Renaissance used to use. You start with a sepia wash, fill in the darks and build up to the highlights. You have to wait for each layer todry before you can start on th next. Which means if you're using oils (as I did here), it can take up to 2 weeks to complete your painting.

The two portraits were from photographs from my Mac using a distortion effect on Photo Booth. I then sketched them onto a canvas board and painted them in. These also use the Renaissance technique.
